Installing drip irrigation in the vegetable garden is really a very simple project That Will not only save you time but money in your vegetable garden. A drip irrigation system Will Eliminate the need to Spend a large amount of time Providing supplemental watering over the summer freeing up time for other activities.

This project can easily be done in one to two hours on the average size garden. Most of the retail garden centers are now selling That drip irrigation kits contain everything you need to set up your system, including complete instructions. You may also order directly on line from parts suppliers. Our drip system is attached to our lawn irrigation system and has it's on the zone set up on the timer clock. It Could also have been run directly from a garden hose with a hose end timer, but as long as We had a free zone We opted to add it to the irrigation system making it completely hands free. While you may think That drip irrigation is very complicated and would be hard to install it is just the Opposite, drip irrigation is simple but effective.

It would be beyond the scope of this article to Provide you with a step by step installation guide but I Will outline the basic components so you can get a feel for it and then include some links to tutorials and installation videos.

The Components Of Drip Irrigation





    The heart of the system of course is your water supply.You must know how much pressure and how many gallons of water per hour flow from your water source. This Will determine the which type of system you will from use of low flow or pressure compensating. (There is a simple test for this in the tutorials link.)
    The back flow preventer Will keep your water source safe from the intuition of bacteria back into your household water system.
    The filter Will be connected before you start running your system into the garden this Will Prevent fine particles and grit from clogging your system.
    The main supply line Will Provide the means to get water from the source to your garden is usually a 1 / 2 "poly tubing.
    Emitter tubing is used to connect the emitters from the main line to the emitters usually 1 / 4 "tubing.
    Actually the device emitters are the which provides the water to the plant. They Could be stakes, sprinklers, or drip emitters placed at the base of the plants.
    Pressure regulating valves are used Pls you have a high water pressure to keep the pressure at the proper pressure and Prevent to much water from flowing through the system.
    A manifold is used on the main water supply line and is a series of either manual or electric valve the which are all connected to the main line and are used to run a sub main line or zone on larger systems.
